2015 Bangkok – Something Old, Something New

Asok station

I was in Bangkok last week and stayed in the Sukhumvit Soi 11 area – the traffic was as crazy as ever and if it wasn’t for the MRT and subway systems it would be almost impossible to get more than one meeting done in the morning and another in the afternoon. Bangkok’s mass transit system has really transformed the city and made it relatively easy and cheap to get around (Bhat 140/day for an unlimited full day pass). For these reasons it can be extremely busy – try to avoid the morning and evening rush hours where commuters are packed in like sardines. I’ve included a few shots taken in along Sukhumvit Soi between the Nana and Asok MRT stations – the new Terminal 21 is yet another indication of the constant growth and development in this region of Bangkok, however it is somewhat comforting to see that “Suda” a family run restaurant is still in its location, just off Sukhumvit along Soi 12 – I’ve been going there, along with other “Hatfielders” for about 25 years, and although the mom doesn’t run it any more, her kids have taken over the family business.
