2016 July Squamish Birds

GSB_Canada-2829-20160710_SquamishDuring my weekend walk around Nexen Beach in Squamish I came across a large flock (at least 8 birds) of Turkey Vultures (Cathartes aura) that were feasting on a large salmon.  Two River Otters (Lontra canadensis) also trying to get in on the action and were actually quite aggressive towards Wally (my dog) and I – the otters can grow up to 14 kg and could probably do some damage to a small dog. Later in the day I was able to get a few shots of Anna’s Hummingbirds (Calypte anna) feeding on our backyard Crocus Mia which were in bloom.  I was shooting at 1/4000 sec and the images are still a bit soft but I didn’t have a lot of light, so didn’t want to go much higher. The two non-wildlife photos are from a birthday party we attended in Vancouver that had live music by an old friend (Matt Kennedy) and his fellow musicians. The photos can be seen by clicking this link or the photo to the left.
