2017 June Sp’aka’us 50 Inaugrual XC Bike Race

Saturday, June 7th featured a brand new event in Squamish, the Sp’akw’us 50 Marathon Mountain Bike Race and BC Provincial XCM Championships. Sp’akw’us means Bald Eagle in the Squamish Nation language, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and is an acknowledgement of the event being hosted in the Squamish nations traditional territory. A big shout out to Dwayne Kress for leading the charge on developing and managing this event, and of course all the sponsors and volunteers that ultimately make it possible. Over the last 20 years, a largely volunteer army of biking enthusiasts have developed the trails in and around Squamish into a world class destination (over 200 km of single track at last count). A full list of sponsors can be viewed by clicking the link above, but I would like to highlight two; The Executive Suites Hotel and Resort for providing a beautiful Start/Finish area and A-Frame Brewing for providing a variety of Squamish’s best locally brewed beers. Finally, congratulations to all the riders – a few photos that I took at Alice Lake, just past Quest, and at the finish line can be seen by clicking the embedded photo or this link
