I was in Toronto for a meeting and happened to walk past Massey Hall, just minutes after a Sarah McLachlan concert (the Shine on Tour) had started. I was able to get a ticket, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Sarah put on a great concert and it was a lively and appreciative crowd. It was my first time in Massey Hall, although I’ve watched several concerts on DVD that have been filmed there. It is a fantastic venue with excellent acoustics and the audience up-close and intimate with the stage.
Massey Hall was built in 1894 and financed by the famous Massey Ferguson farm equipment company – hence the name. It can hold just over 2,500 and it’s stage has seen some of the world’s great artists and bands including George Gershwin, Glenn Gould, Vladimir Horowitz, Gordon Lightfoot, Charlie Parker-Dizzy Gillespie, Pavarotti, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Kinks, and Oscar Peterson, amongst many others.
