The annual “Wing Ding” at the Brackendale Art Gallery (BAG) was held on the last day in January. Thor and Valdy weren’t able to agree on how many years the event has been held, but settled on somewhere around 20+. Valdy is a well known and much beloved folk singer whose friendly and energetic playing and story-telling makes for a fun evening. He was accompanied by Jim Jestick, a skilled percussionist. Valdy now lives on Saltspring, but seems to live the life of a troubadour, travelling from coast to coast to coast, sharing his love of life and music with the great and the good. The BAG is one of Squamish’s many hidden jewels, well known to locals, but perhaps not widely known (a good thing for selfish reasons) – Thor and Dorte continue to support conservation and culture in this little town, and we are all richer for it. A few photos of the evening can be seen here.
