Galileo Coffee shop is my favorite stop for an early morning coffee on my daily commute from Squamish to Vancouver – this popular cafe is conveniently located as you enter Britannia Beach and provides a welcome pit-stop for commuters heading both north to Squamish/Whistler and south to Vancouver. The excellent coffee is roasted on-site and a variety of snacks are also available. Click on the photo for a larger version. For those of you with a bit more time, Britannia Beach has a fascinating history and is well worth exploring. A centre piece in the town is the Britannia Mine Museum – the museum opened in 1975 as the BC Museum of Mining and Mill 3 underwent a $5 million exterior rehabilitation between 2005 to 2007 to replace siding, roof and windows. After an additional $14.7 million redevelopment project, the museum was renamed the Britannia Mine Museum in October 2010. There are displays concerning the importance of minerals in our daily lives, and on the history of the Britannia Mine, including its environmental remediation. There are also some interesting small stores in town and access to a variety of hiking trails.
