Just spent a day and night in Edinburgh en route to Perth and points further north. Edinburgh is definitely one of the most lovely cities in the UK and like many ancient cities, the core of it is quite compact and very walkable. We started to the east of the city near the new Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyroodhouse (where the King/Queen stays when visiting) and walked west along Princess Street to Edinburgh Castle and then back along the Royal Mile. Although the distance was not great, you could easily spend weeks exploring this city since there is something of interest/significance to see every few feet (not to mention over 700 pubs/restaurants according the our guide book). The National War Memorial in the heart of Edinburgh Castle was particularly moving. A few shots of our day’s walk can be seen here.
