The first weekend of September, and the “official” end of the summer holidays had a definite feel of fall with cooler temperatures and some of the trees starting to change colour. A few shots of a bike ride and walk around Squamish can be seen here. I was particularly impressed with the progress made at restoring the old log sort on the east bank of the Squamish River in the area known as the Central Estuary. Kudos to the Squamish River Watershed Society and other partners who have worked so hard to restore a badly degraded industrial site back to its natural state. Virtually all the wood-waste and debris has been removed, and the site regraded to the elevation of an adjacent sedge marsh meadow; tidal channels were also dug. Volunteers have planted Carex lyngbyei (sedge) and native shrubs and trees – the whole site is looking great and I am excited to see how it develops over the next few years.
