In September 2010, the RBC GranFondo Whistler was inaugurated as a legacy event of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games along a dedicated 122 km car-free lane from downtown Vancouver to Whistler along the spectacular Sea-to-Sky highway. This year was the 6th annual race/ride and conditions were perfect. Riders started at 7:00 am in downtown Vancouver and the fastest were at Alice Lake (just north of Squamish) at 8:30 am and in Whistler before 10:30 am (the fastest riders were all under 3:30 hours; Facundo Chernikoff had the best time of 3:22:26). A few shots of the race taken at the Alice Lake turn-off can be seen here. A shout out to two Hatfield employees who both completed the race in excellent time; Dr. Peter McNamee and Zhanxun (Daniel) Lu. One of the great things about these events is that they attract riders of all ages and abilities and it was great to cheer on such a diverse group of individuals – congratulations to all participants.
