2017 Jan Eagles along the Mamquam

The last Saturday in January, we went for a walk along the Mamquam River (a tributary of the Squamish river that runs just below our house) – an early salmon run of Chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) attracts Bald Eagles from a wide range and typically hundreds of eagles congregate in Squamish (depending on the size of the salmon run) in Jan/Feb to feed on the salmon that die after spawning. A few shots of the walk can be seen here, or by clicking on the embedded photo.
