I had an approximately 15 hour overlay in Hong Kong en route to Doha and Johannesburg which gave me a chance to walk around Kwaloon for a couple of hours. In my opinion, Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok airport continues to be one of the most efficient and pleasant airports to transit through in the world. It took me about 10 minutes to get through customs and immigration (both getting into and leaving Hong Kong) compared to the inefficient and periodically unpleasant experience I’ve had going through the US (don’t try and do an international transfer in the US unless you have more than 3 hours between connections). I just reposted a Facebook article from an elderly Australian who had to endure first hand how the current US regime can treat visitors. A few pictures of my layover can be seen by clicking this link or the embedded photo.
