Squamish Days is a much anticipated community supported annual event that’s expanded from a one day loggers sports competition in 1957 (60 years ago !!) to a long weekend activities that now includes a parade, bed races, an 8K run, pancake breakfast and world class loggers sports shows with competitors from all around the world. Forestry used to be a much bigger part of the local (and provincial) economy than it is now, but the “roots run deep” in Squamish, and many families here still have strong connections with the industry. As with most small town events, its the volunteers that make it all happen – a big shout out to all the volunteers and sponsors who make this into such a fun event – Armand Hurford did a fantastic job again MC’ing the event. A few photos of the weekend can be seen by clicking this link or the embedded photo – the first few photos are of an early morning bike ride, followed by some photos of the parade and then finally the loggers competition. Note that much of central and southern BC, including the south coast, continues to be blanketed by smoke from forest fires – hence the colour cast on many of the photos.
